Functional Skills English Online Course

I signed up for the Functional Skills English online course because my uni offer for nursing needed Level 2 English. The assessment at the start put me at the right level and then I just worked through the reading and writing units in my own time. The videos on formal vs informal writing and email structure were especially helpful. I passed the Level 2 exam in May and my place at university is now confirmed.

Very good course for me. I study English online after work. Reading texts are clear and there are questions after each one. I used it to prepare for Functional Skills English Level 1 exam and I pass last week.

I failed GCSE English at school and always avoided writing anything longer than a few lines. The online Functional Skills English course broke everything down into small, manageable steps. First short paragraphs, then planning, then full letters and reports. Being able to rewatch the explanation videos before trying the questions made a huge difference. Nice course if you want to study alone. Texts are interesting (emails, leaflets, web pages) and questions are similar to exam. I used mobile phone and tablet to study and it worked fine. Passed Functional Skills English Level 1 with help of this course.

I’m dyslexic and usually dread reading long texts. What helped me with this online English course was the way the reading is chunked. You read a short section, answer a few questions, then move on. The site also lets you zoom the text and change the background colour which made it easier on my eyes. It still took time, but I passed the Level 2 reading and writing exams and can now go ahead with my access course.

The speaking and listening practice tasks in the course were really helpful. There are examples of discussions and presentations with tips on how to gain marks for clarity, turn‑taking and formal language. I watched those first and then practised with a friend. When I did the real Functional Skills English assessment, I knew exactly what to expect.

Needed English Level 2 for an apprenticeship. I like that the course is split into Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2. I started at Level 1 after the diagnostic and worked my way up. The quizzes at the end of each section tell you straight away if you’re ready to move on. Once I was consistently getting good scores, I booked my Level 2 exam and passed.

Online Functional Skills English course is very practical. Many tasks are about real life – work emails, complaints, information leaflets. I could see how it will help in job and not only for exam. After finish Level 2 section I pass the exam and now I am applying for office jobs in London.

I mostly studied on my phone during my commute. The lessons are short enough to complete one or two on the train. I appreciated that the course remembered where I left off and that I could see a percentage bar showing my progress through Level 2. That kept me motivated. The preparation clearly worked because I passed both the reading and writing components at the first attempt.

I wanted an alternative to retaking GCSE English again. The Functional Skills English online course felt more grown‑up. It focused on things I actually use – emails, forms, reports – rather than literature. After working through the writing units and doing a few practice papers, I took the Level 2 exam and passed. Now I meet the entry requirements for my childcare Level 3 course.

I used the course to brush up my English for both work emails and the Functional Skills exam. The sections on formal vs informal tone and structuring reports were especially useful for my job. After finishing the Level 2 content I booked the exam and passed, which also helped me secure a promotion.

Good course, simple English, many examples. I like that teacher write in different colours on screen to show capital letters, commas and full stops. This help me to see where I make mistake. I pass Functional Skills English Level 1 and will continue for Level 2 later this year.

I bought the online English course in January and worked through it bit by bit until my April exam. The diagnostic at the start picked up that my spelling and punctuation needed work. I used the Entry 3 and Level 1 parts first, then moved to Level 2. I have passed my Level 1 exam and now I am using the same online course to prepare for Level 2 so I can start a health and social care course.
