Successful ESOL with Employability Project

We are proud to announce the successful completion of our DWP-funded ESOL with Employability Programme, supporting Islington Jobcentre claimants to improve their English, digital, and job readiness skills.

Over the course of seven months, Intech Centre worked closely with Barnsbury, Finsbury Park, and Caledonian Road Jobcentres, receiving referrals for 280 claimants. Our mission was to provide practical and tailored support to 100 eligible claimants, and we are pleased to have delivered this with exceptional outcomes.

Key Achievements:

• 280 claimants referred

• 240 attended appointments at our centre

• 186 claimants received full Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) and completed diagnostic assessments

• 100 learners enrolled onto the programme

• Delivered in 13 small-group cohorts over 7 months, with an average group size of 8

• 96% completion rate – only a few left due to childbirth or moving outside of London

• Over 60% of learners were refugees, and our support was tailored to meet their individual needs

What Did Learners Gain?

This was more than an English course. Participants received practical skills and personalised support that helped them become more confident, employable, and digitally capable:

• English Language Skills: Improved reading, writing, speaking and listening

• Employability Training: Created a fit-for-purpose CV, learned how to search for and apply for jobs, and prepared for interviews

• Digital Skills: Gained confidence in using devices, online forms, job sites and email

• AI in Everyday Life: Learned to use AI tools to support job applications and daily digital tasks

• 1-to-1 Career Support: Every learner was supported by a dedicated Careers Adviser throughout their journey

• Confidence & Communication: Learners developed stronger English and self-belief, enabling them to navigate life in the UK more independently
